In Authorize and Capture, the payment is essentially automatic and immediate, with no further manual steps required in the Back Office to charge the credit card.

Since Authorize and Capture takes immediate payment for an Order, the Payment Date is oftentimes different than the Delivery Date. If a Customer needs to edit their Order, they will have to re-enter their card details to account for the price differences.

Should I Use Authorize and Capture?

Oftentimes, a Customer doesn't want to pay for an Order until the fulfillment is made. This helps account for added or reduced costs on Orders, which might be changed between the day they were created and the day they were confirmed.

For this reason, Spoonfed does not typically recommend Authorize and Capture as a way to take card payments. Instead, we usually recommend the Validate Card Option.
